Article: 008 DO WE MAKE GOD GAG? "I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot. I will vomit you out of My mouth." Revelation 3:15&16 The most damage caused to Christianity, and what has shaped the outside worlds perception of God, has been due to lukewarm Christians. Are we so sucked into the importance of our pathetic lives that our possessions and statuses in life have overruled Almighty God? Do our lives, whilst claiming to be His children, make Him gag? A lukewarm Christian is a Christian who is not serious about God nor about their relationship with Him. God isn't even their refuge whom they run to when things fall apart. He is simply the chosen Deity they pray to whilst they try to resolve their own problems. He is the One they half-heartedly hold allegiance to but whom is readily blamed when things go wrong. "God, is this a test? Did I lose my job because You're testing me?" "God are you testing me again with my finances?" "My car broke down, my child got suddenly sick and now there's hospital expenses, the company I work for is not doing well and our salaries weren't paid this month and my house is falling apart. God must be testing me." How often do we blame our situations on God testing us without stopping to consider that the way we are living is outside of the will of God and so we are simply not being blessed? How can God bless us if we're no longer under His protection because we've removed ourselves from it? And then we blame Him? We want God to bless us but our conversations are laced with swearing. We want God to bless us but we still make plans to go out clubbing with our friends when it's the weekend. We want His blessings but miss Church on Sunday morning when we're hung over and only got into bed as the sun was rising. We want to be blessed but have no compassion for others. We want blessings but prayer is foreign to us and is only something we close our eyes for at Church while someone else says it. And then we dare to think that God is testing us when our lives fall apart? If you're going to call yourself a Christian then act like it. If not then stop claiming to be one. If following God Almighty and building up a personal relationship with the Creator who formed you and came to earth to die for you is too much of an inconvenience for your life, then don't worry, there's a train which departs for hell regularly and you get a free ticket. So many people resent messages such as this one, the 'turn or burn' message, as it forces them to face up to reality and they don't like it. When faced with a sale of 'Offer Ends Today' then people are quick to pull out the credit card in order to avoid missing a good deal, but the truth of 'Heaven or Hell - Offer Can End At Any Time' is somehow offensive. We prepare for death by ensuring we have life policies in place, but our time is wasted if our preparations are done solely for those left behind but we give no consideration to where we will be going to when we die. Too many people are living their lives thinking that they have just enough religion to get a pass into heaven (or into whatever place so many have built up in their minds where they believe all 'good' people go to when they die). They sing hallelujah's on the occasional Sunday, buy tickets to raffles held for charitable causes and, in general, try to just be a good person. They overlook the fact that 'good' is not good enough. Jesus did not make the sacrifice of coming to earth, living a perfect life to make the grade to be our sacrifice and suffered humiliation, degradation and shame at the hands of man just so that we could settle for 'good' in order to get an economy ticket into heaven. God only has first class tickets but they are solely reserved for His family members; His children. If you look at yourself properly and weigh up your relationship with Him, do you think it will be enough to be considered family? Are you His child or more of a distant cousin twice removed? Is your Christianity on fire for your Saviour or will the lukewarm taste of you leave God gagging? If you want to get serious about God then it's a choice you have to make and a decision you must follow through. And once you know Him you'll never be the same again. Things that were once pleasurable seem meaningless in the light of the glory of God. Start praying to Him at all times of the day, no matter how awkward your prayers may seem at first; start reading a chapter from your Bible every day (preferably in the morning so you can start your day out with Him); stay away from crude conversations and jokes; chose to switch off an offensive programme which, although may be humourous and popular, openly uses bad language and sex to bring the humour across. Having a personal relationship with Jesus is not some burden which has to be endured in order to get to heaven (if that is the case for you then you're doing it wrong). A personal relationship with Jesus is freedom from the false hope and expectations placed on us by this world. It results in experiencing amazing love and acceptance. There is true love and freedom that can only be found in the arms of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. God bless, The Reaching Out Ministries Team
